Dr. Coleman began the practice of Anesthesiology providing both surgical anesthesia and interventional pain management in 1991. He found the challenges of treating difficult pain problems very interesting. By 2000 his practice was almost completely treating acute and chronic pain problems.
He has been a pioneer in interventional pain management treating spinal disorders and cancer pain. Dr. Coleman has a career of innovation and cutting-edge pain care. He was the first physician at Ball Hospital to perform many procedures: spinal cord stimulation, directed spinal drug delivery with programmable spinal pumps, and vertebral augmentation to treat painful vertebral compression fractures.
As a pioneer in interventional pain management, he was the first pain management physician in the United States to be trained and include kyphoplasty in clinical practice.
He advocates for interventional procedures which spare bone, muscles, and minimize skin incision size to speed recovery and reduce infection risk. Dr. Coleman performs endoscopic spinal discectomies and decompression procedures. He has a great interest in regenerative medicine and stem cell biology seeking innovative treatments for persistent problems.
Outside his medical practice, Dr. Coleman finds nature, regenerative agriculture, apiculture, and outdoor pursuits invigorating.
